Marie-Florence & Alexandra

Mambo Marie-Florence Jean-Joseph and her daughter Alexandra Jean-Joseph.

Florence is the leader of the Le Temple D’Olohoum dedicated to the observance of Vodou in its most religious aspect. It focuses on creating a physical, mental, moral and, most importantly, spiritual environment for the practice of Vodou. The foundational belief of the temple lies in the Great Olohoum, the Creator of the universe, omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent, who governs the universe through the angels, the “mistè,” or “zangn,” the supernatural found everywhere throughout the world.

Alexandra is a traditional Haitian dancer, author of ‘Tout Se Pa’ the Haitian folklore dance workshop where she teaches and expounds upon the Haitian rhythms, accompanied by live drumming.

Both are members of KNVA New York (Konfederasyon Nasyonal Vodouyizan Ayisyen) K.N.V.A. has been working relentlessly to establish a strong organizational framework at the local, regional, national and international levels. The goal is to regulate the expansion of the religion in concert with the State of Haiti, and the relevant foreign governments. Vodou thrives wherever its servants live throughout the world. To strengthen its international presence, K.N.V.A. created the representative positions “GwètòDe” and “Gwètò” throughout Haiti and wherever Haitians migrate.
